Almond nails sound pretty self-explanatory, right? As the name so obviously suggests, these nails are inspired by the slightly pointed shape of an almond. They're similar to oval nails, except they're not quite as rounded, and they typically create the illusion of longer hands.

“This shape elongates and slenderizes the hand," says celebrity nail artist Elle Gerstein. "It also works for people who are active because it helps avoid chipping the corners."

Whether you're planning on requesting almond nails during your next trip to the nail salon or you're trying to mimic the style on your own, creating the perfect almond shape is a lot easier than you might think. "File inward at the free edge and taper the nail to create a pointed look bringing the file in from each side wall of the nail," says LeChat Nails educator Syreeta Aaron. "As the nail becomes slimmer to a point, you round the tip just a smidge to replicate an almond."

Gerstein notes that if you're trying to create the shape at home, the key is to not spend too much time filing away at the sides of the nail, as "this causes them to break.”

"You file from underneath and need longer nails to make the shape appear," she says.

Almond nails are a great option if you're someone who often does a lot with your hands. "I typically give clients the almond shape when they type a lot, do a lot of paperwork, are very active, or just want a little length to their nails," says Aaron. "Overall, I honestly think almond nails are the best shape for those that want a little length because they are so versatile when it comes to being active."

If you're looking for some design inspiration, the good news is that Aaron suggests pretty much any design looks good on almond nails, while Gerstein adds that because of the nail shape, modern designs—especially deep French manicures—might be best.

Almond Nails: Almond nails are a popular nail shape inspired by the slightly pointed shape of an almond. They are similar to oval nails but with a more tapered and pointed tip, creating the illusion of longer hands. This shape is recommended for individuals who are active, as it helps avoid chipping at the corners and elongates and slenderizes the hand. The process of creating almond nails involves filing inward at the free edge and tapering the nail to create a pointed look, rounding the tip slightly to replicate an almond shape. It's important not to spend too much time filing away at the sides of the nail, as this can cause them to break. Longer nails are also recommended to make the almond shape appear more pronounced. Almond nails are versatile and suitable for individuals who type a lot, do paperwork, or engage in various activities. They are also compatible with a wide range of nail designs, including modern designs like deep French manicures. The almond nail shape can be complemented with various designs, such as French almond nails, dotted almond nails, green swirl almond nails, gold foil almond nails, all-black almond nails, and many more.

Public Speaking Concepts:

  • Introduction to Public Speaking: Bay College is described as the regional college of choice where people thrive, workforces excel, communities connect, and lives transform.
  • Structuring the Speech: Organizing speeches serves two important functions. Firstly, it helps improve clarity of thought in a systematic way, and secondly, it increases the likelihood that the speech will be effective. Disorganized speeches are unlikely to be understood by audiences, and disorganized speakers are seen as less reliable or credible.
  • Introductions and Conclusions: The first major purpose of an introduction in public speaking is to gain the audience's attention. Novice speakers often make the mistake of assuming that people will naturally listen because the speaker is speaking, but getting the audience to listen requires specific strategies to grab their attention.
  • Methods of Speech Delivery: Extemporaneous speech delivery involves speakers preparing notes in advance to trigger their memory of what they planned to say. These notes are often placed on notecards, and speakers determine what needs to go on each card by reading through their speech notes and giving themselves phrases to say out loud.

These concepts provide a foundational understanding of public speaking, including the importance of structuring speeches, gaining audience attention, and methods of speech delivery.
