The parish community of Blessed Sacrament and St. Mary’s, Pittston, recently celebrated First Holy Communion. Having completed a two-year preparation program, 16 children received their First Holy Communion on Sunday, May 4, at the 11:30 a.m. Mass at St. Mary, Help of Christians Church. The Coordinator of Faith Formation is Sister Rose Marie Mozzachio, IHM. Nancy Shea serves as catechist for the second grade. She was assisted by Katryna Reilly. Liturgical music was under the direction of Mrs. Maurita Barnikowski. Rev. Thomas J. Maloney is the pastor of Blessed Sacrament and St. Mary’s Parish Community. St. Rocco’s Christian Mothers will observe their annual Communion Breakfast on Sunday, May 18, at the Gramercy Restaurant, South Main Street, Pittston. It will be held after the 8 a.m. Mass at the Church. The cost is $10 per person. Please call the rectory for reservations at 654-2914. The guest speaker will be Barbara Pirrella-Sico, Division Director of Bayada Nurses.
Pirrella-Sico is a native of Pittston, daughter of the late Tony and Prudence Pirrella. She is the Division Direction of Bayada Nurses where she oversees the operations of 5 service offices who cater to the home care nursing needs of pediatric, adult and geriatric patients. She plans to open an additional office in the Pocono area in early 2009. Barbara is a graduate of Wilkes University and holds a degree in Psychology.
Barbara is a committee member of the Coats for Kids/Shoes for Kids organization and a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce. She is a lifetime parishioner of Saint Rocco’s church. She resides in Pittston with her husband, Bob, and his daughter, Giavanna.

A non-profit corporation was formed and a LOAN was secured from a local bank for JMJ Catholic Radio to purchase 750AM after Holy Family Communications sold that station to a non-Catholic Christian radio group. It appeared we might lose Catholic Radio altogether if they did not purchase it. After much prayerful conversation and discernment, it was decided another chance was needed to keep this valuable gift in our area.
